Mentioning someone's name in conversation more often while talking with them, will get them to like you more.
I've always found that unsettling, like when people laugh too much at jokes I know full well aren't funny.
Starting up with a compliment when you've just met someone, will help have them open up a lot more.
That is helpful for foot-in-the-door, as they'll also feel like they need to reciprocate. Once they've helped you with something it becomes easier to keep that train moving over the positive self-affirmation of having mattered for a moment while otherwise being more familiar with the idea.
I don't do a lot of tricky stuff, at least not consciously. But I had a friend many years back who explained something he would do that probably fits for this thread.
Friend X usually presented as charming and affable. He was also relatively confrontational, so that flowed with his "vibe." One thing he would do (particularly with women) is challenge/disagree with them after getting on good terms with them. He would do this even if he actually agreed with them, to assert dominance.
People like you more if you ask them a little favour, makes them feel better about themselves. Whenever I speak to someone for my job I make it clear that they are helping me. Really does wonders if you manage to make it sound natural. Mentioning someone's name once is good too, but don't overdo it.
I only do this stuff at work though. It feels scummy to pull these tactics with friends
Maybe that's why I'm better with strangers than with people close to me?
