I watched this movie LOL
and it was actually a really great way to explain something that, is difficult to explain. Which is the concept of what blind spotting is when applied to race, and the effects it has on society- resulting in, issues like police brutality and, gentrification. It touched on so much more than that as well.
I really like the main character and in my opinion, the white guy wearing a grill is what ruined it. It’s not his fault just, the way the script was written was, a little cheesy.
I understand the main character is a personification of, the pain felt by the black community, and for messaging purposes he does have to be a bit “beaten down” and “down trodden” in mood, subtly, the entire film. But I would of appreciated seeing the movie be re-written to be more, realistic, and then, with the applied concept, it could of come closer to winning some awards like moonlight did.
Moonlight was a brilliant film and it deserved winning film of the year, but if blind spotting had toned down the cheesiness, it could of held 2nd place to moonlight.
Also, i don’t like how the introduction isn’t rap music but then the rest of the entire film is rap. I would of liked to see the music go a little harder, like get some Kendrick Lamar ass shit up in there and like, more old school stuff. I think it’s possible that it was lower budget so that is why the music didn’t go as hard as it could have.
The bars they spit in the movie are fire as well but I would of liked to see them incorporated in a more realistic way- rather than them just breaking into song and dance like high school musical. Lol
But over all, it’s a nice educational message that, perhaps they were aiming to be seen by younger generations maybe, to sort of, bring awareness and understanding to these issues and, sort of warn them about. Like I noticed they avoided curse words as much as possible deliberately so.
I think this would be a good to show to like 5th/6th graders. Even though it does guns in it, so does the world and they need to be taught about them and the dangers behind them, like police brutality, and how serious to treat those kind of situations.
