Election years and the internet

I've noticed that during election years, the entire internet seems to increase in activity. This may seem intuitive and elementary, and in the case of political discussion and debate, it kind of is. But then I see areas of the internet that are completely unrelated to politics heating up every four years, be it youtube drama or SC or whatever. Something about election years causes a collective frenzy online. It could have something to do with everybody tuning in online to catch every twist and turn in politics. Perhaps it's all the memeing and shitpost culture that comes with elections among zoomers carrying into other parts of the internet with the same fervor. Something happens, it's definitely less chill.

Just a trend I've observed.

Maybe you just happen to be more invested in stuff during election time and that's why things seem to be busier online.

Yeah, the only time that things get truly busier are post SuperPACs once 4chan and other groups mobilize.
