once, i used my foot to push my carry on lightly from under it so i could get it on the plane when i moved to hawaii, they told me to place it on the scale, and i propped it with my foot while it was going on. the woman was so busy looking at her computer, she didnt notice and couldnt from where she was standing on her side of the desk.  i have my very heavy bag allowed on the plane. and didnt need to throw out any luggage. i also layered my clothing quite a bit, and wore multiple hats, and even tied stuffed animals around my neck on a scarf to make a "necklace" with a large trashbag in my pocket. when i got on the plane, i put it all in the bag, and didnt need to pay for any luggage at all, and ended up having 3 suitcases worth of stuff in the end.
