Im an extremely visual person and I love creating, especially anything visual arts

I do it in my spare time often and, it’s fun for me.

I actually went to school for design originally before I switched to biology. So I do have some technical training, and I worked in a design studio for a while- assisting designers with some commercial projects.

Which was fun but, it’s a lot of work.

But yeah, so, with everything being difficult right now- to make money. I asked for more design related work.

And I got a project. So yeah,

I’m going to post work I do here so I can ramble about things about it. Because- the designers don’t want to hear it they don’t have time lol

but I personally like to talk a lot about the things I make because I have a lot of thoughts about it, and I want to like bounce ideas off other people heads in a harkness style learning environment to see other perspectives and criticism etc.

I feel like that helps you expand to new horizons as an artist. Sharing your art in new contexts to sort draw from that contrast new inspirations and perspectives. Idk.

So this is a place for sharing design shit, whether it’s your own or- other designers work you find worth sharing. This is the design thread. Ur welcome.

Okay so this is the Steel Works project

I also want to do a custom back lit screen and possible shelving on the wall but that slide is still in the works. There’s a lot that goes into each thing you put into a room.

But yeah! I’ll post photos of the final project when it’s done IRL so you can see the uh... finished product I guess all come together

thought on the design?

Steel Works Thoughts

I personally feel like it’s ugly and bland, and it bothers me how the wood tones don’t compliment each other- from ceiling to floor. And then the table in the center really just sucks the life out of the room and is too heavy and industrial, and kind of ugly in my opinion LOL. But this is what the *client* wants.

The client has a very masculine and industrial style, and it’s a professional environment. So we can’t get too crazy.

The room also has to match the rest of the building’s interior theme.

This is a conference room, so focus, and serenity is the goal here. Low stress, low distraction, clean- comfortable, but says, “I spent a lot of money on this design, and I don’t regret it. I’m proud of this space which I have worked very hard to own, and create. I love the company I work for.”

And a space that I could imagine myself coming to every morning- and not being sick of looking at, but, kind of glad, to be in. Because it’s “cool”

So yeah, I wanted to make it cool, instead of bland and boring.

Which is why the rug is so, “blade runner” esc. Reminds of that one scene where the water reflections are all over the walls. Love it. One of my favorite scenes in cinematic history.

But the rug couldn’t be overly light, or overly colorful- and it needed to be quite large to fill up majority of the space.  Overly light was going to make the client angry, because they said they didn’t want anything getting “dirty” looking

So I had to go with, grey. More brown or tan would of been nauseating, so this is the best I could do- while still matching the buildings interior.

And the chairs I had no say in- that’s the chairs they wanted. I personally think white makes no sense if they don’t want shit getting dirty but- that’s what they wanted so. *shrugs*

The lighting and table were pre-done as well so i had no choice in that.

I think the back lit TV screen wall for presenting power points and what not, as you do in conference rooms- will be the touch it needs to bring some exuberance and “fun” back into the room.

However, this process is a little more complicated than picking out wood samples and rugs- because whenever you have lighting, there is fire codes and all sorts of shit you have to comply with. But I think some LED strips will do the trick without breaking their budget.
