Reincarnation, or a system in general where our minds are wiped and made to start again from scratch. It's all the benefits of a fixed system of living, but more efficient.
Afterlives are as much suffering for us as our minds capacity to witness it in something resembling it's current form. This is why so many afterlife situations involve losing pieces of ourselves to make it easier for us to handle.
