How does coloured lighting create a subconscious emotional effect?

Often a particular coloured lighting helps in shaping our mood.

White lighting often represents purity, innocence, a new beginning and freshness, whereas yellow brings up a very mellow, complex and intense mood. Blue calms the eyes down and green enhances concentration.

Colours affect marketing and purchase on a daily level. You can use them to shape your outcomes and push whatever emotion you're trying to portray.

Concentration? Green

Work out?Orange

Date?Red for women, blue for men

Aggressive? Black and so on

You ask the question but then add factors that support it to be a matter of culture. I think we should consider first whether the emotional response that we get from colours is purely circumstantial, or innate. Red is the colour of blood for example, and is fairly rare in nature. Blue and purple are very rare in nature, but then green is super common. Do we feel comforted by the colour white because it's been associated with daylight? Does that imply safety, or in some ways, control?

Much to consider here. But I understand seerx, why you assumed that our interpretations are mainly culture-based.

tl;dr I don't know lol

i always thought red was desperation and green was envy and lust. when it comes to associations it must be a nurture style cause, like culture, but light has a nature style effect too. warms and cools affect your circadian rhythm so they affect your ability to focus or relax for example.

i’m no authority, but i don’t think it’s significant that many people associate one color with the same thing. it makes sense to me. people are unique, but we’re also very not.
