We’re all going to live - the atlas comet

For those of you who dont know

there was a comet five times the size of jupiter and surrounded in toxic levels of noxious gases, heading rapidly for direct collision with our sun.

if this happened pulsar waves would be sent through out atmosphere as a result of the impact, as well as, the toxic levels of noxious gas! And, we would all die.

This morning the atlas comet was broken up, and thwarted off course.

We almost, all just got obliterated. So cheers, to still being here.

I didn’t tell anyone about it because, honestly- I wish I didn’t know, when I did know.

So I decided to spare those who hadn’t yet found out.

I would rather just unwittingly die that know what’s coming to hit me first.

Because surviving this would of been, pretty much impossible.

The nucleus was 10 km, not the size of 7 Jupiters, lol.

The comet itself is likely only a few kilometres wide, but its atmosphere has ballooned to a staggering 720,000 kilometres (447,387 miles) wide - about half as wide as the Sun.

This is because it is leaving a trail of gas and debris in its wake as it makes its way from the orbit of Mars, which it is near at the moment, past Earth and to Venus.

Website Space Weather said: "On the scale of big things in the solar system, Comet ATLAS falls somewhere between the sun (1,392,000 km diameter) and Jupiter (139,820 km).

"It's not unusual for comets to grow so large. While their icy solid cores are typically mere kilometers in diameter, they can spew prodigious amounts of gas and dust into space, filling enormous volumes."

The confusion comes from the difference between the nucleus and the coma.

The nucleus is a small icy body, only a few km across.

The coma is the cloud of gas and dust released from the nucleus as it warms up. With not much gravity, the coma spreads out into space, and it can be hard to say exactly where the edge of the coma lies, however, a coma "the size of Jupiter" would not be unusual. Active comets can have comas that are larger than the sun.

But the mass of the coma is tiny. It is made of a very low-pressure gas. It is nearly all empty space, most of the mass of the comet remains locked in the nucleus.
Cheery bye!

could you imagine being in deep space surrounded by infinite dark void, standing on the surface of one of these breathing through the oxygen of your space suit- looking out from the glass of your mask- and seeing these huge snowy space mountains???

how fucking EPIC dude lol

space travel is fucking *awesome* and one day, it will be less dangerous and more common supposedly. But for now if you want to see it you have to get used to the idea of g-forces sinking your heart deep into your chest cavity.

but in the future we won't be landing on comets unfortunately. though it would be fun, it's too difficult and dangerous.

I want to see the moons covered in ice personally. And of course, the iconic mars.

The movie interstellar is fun if you want to get your space travel fix (but according to astrophysicists horribly inaccurate).
