Really enjoying my Western Civ class. Just learned something kinda interesting. The word demon comes from the Greek word daimon which has no negative connotations and is just the Greek word for "deity." Early Christians viewed Roman and Pagan gods as evil tricksters, and as the bible was translated into Latin and then English, the word was given more malicious connotations until it came to mean "evil, lesser spirit" in middle English.
I care, that's pretty interesting.
Thanks ^.^

I thought it cane from the word daemon.
Also yeah, a lot of Christianity's demonizing efforts borrow from divine figures in surrounding faiths, even down to the Horns and Hooves.
I suppose it makes sense, their idea is that anything presented from another religion is trickery, even other Christian splinter faiths.
Blackface is a demonised Celtic tradition where people rubbed ash and coal on their faces to represent spirits.
And Ash Wednesday was their attempt at a compromise, much like Halloween.
