"But wouldn't it be perfect?" is the bedrock of her stonewalling. When truly pressed into a corner over her Chapo fixation, she begins narrating how it's preferable to imagine a world where it could still work out for her.
She at this point is basically asking people to feed her fantasy, and she's willing to pay people to do it. It's either that or her facing her father's death for what it truly is, which she can never, ever do. Tricking her and accepting her money is likely how to keep her from committing suicide, while those who aim to help her are contributing towards her existential pain.
I guess that makes people like me the bad guy, and people like Jim and FOTS helpful souls. If there's any capacity for her to learn lessons, it's more likely through trial by fire, and in the meantime she has moments of undeserved happiness over a dream being nourished inauthentically.
