I've always admired the idea demonstrated by Roger Smith in Big O. In that setting, it's expected to use firearms, yet his strength as a Negotiator comes from his decision to not carry one. 

The appearance of helplessness can be a weapon in the right hands.

If I lived in the US, I'd probably want one too. So glad I'm in Canada, and the worst thing I have to worry about is the cold.
