I've been having great succes staying sober and it reflects well on every other facet of my life. I've also started going to the gym 4 times a week and noticed great improvement in my mood. On top of that I am reading more often, which is also rewarding. But these are pretty rudimentary things and I still find myself fighting off a craving here and there.
What do you guys do to trigger your reward system, not involving any drugs?
i find helping people or working with kids is very rewarding and also animals. particularly dogs. in general are very great.
and love, is very rewarding...
also, anything that provides a sense of accomplishment. so like, creating a painting and then, selling it on etsy or, working on something for your job and completing that task really well or, you know, like work is positively rewarding sometimes.
i def feel more on track if i have a job. even if i'm not totally happy in life, at least i know im on some sort of track where i'm making money and providing for myself. that is something that, the notion of alone is positively rwearding to me.
caffeine is a drug kind of but, coffee.
also like, bonding with people is positively rewarding.
so like, going to school, finishing assignments, is rewarding and also like, working ona ssignetns or hanging out with people from your class is kind of fun sometimes. or finding hobbies on campus.
also volunteer work is cool.
a great thing for recovering addicts is to try and do service work within the recovery curcuit, in their community so... that can be something really nice and strucured you go and do some volunteer work maybe three days a week at a rehab facility or, a hospital.... you know, jiust. staying involved.
i like big events to look forward to as well so like, planning milestone parties or events for yourself and a signifcant other or, looking forward to work/career/hobby related events, or even recovery events can be really exciting.
i think involvement is the most positively rewarding thing for any human being.
creative hobbies can be fun too.
