I tend to pick a best friend in each group as opposed to having just one, so if you're meaning singular as in the best friend... then not so much. 

Two best female friends and two male best friends.

The males for quite a few months, AeonianSuccubus has been my best girl for about 2 years, and my other best gal I've known for about 5 years.

I'd definitely miss them if I were never to see them again.

I followed the same approach in hs. It gave me friends with varying interests and when everyone started doing drugs I naturally had a market.

Completely fell out of this in college though, it's harder to keep up with so many social circles when your busy.
