my grandfather died in a home where he was supposed to be taken care of and watched at all times, he fell, hit his head and did not survive the injury. they sued and won. :'(
also, my mom got very ill, before that. in the hospital, and the surgery was done improperly, causing a tear, which caused an infection. onto of that, the nurse who was taking care of her, made a mistake changing her draining tube, being inconsiderate of how sensitive the area was, and caused the infection to worsen, and all together- this whole ordeal nearly killed her- and made her even more ill, than she started off- in the first place. she sued and won a settlement from the hospital. [she is honestly lucky to be alive, and she did genuinely, nearly die but by literally a shred of a hair she survived that shit]

moral of the story, always have a good lawyer on hand and ready to sue!
