GPS won't use data. If the app already has the map installed then you can use GPS without a sim card if anything.

 True. I spent 3 hours in a McDonalds today using wifi for school/ work things tho.

I'm in a new city, I'm using the GPS to get everywhere right now. 

Next time you're at Ronald's, download the map data into your phone so GPS will be free on data.
